Founded by Jessica Luca Stevens in 2003, MOUNTAIN WATER CANVAS originated as a subcontracting sewing business on the Westshore of Lake Tahoe. One summer of sewing in Tahoe to support Luca’s other career as a professional ski patroller soon became the primary focus of her work life. While learning to craft high quality boat canvas, the abundance of left over marine canvas inspired many side projects, including the original prototypes for the current generation of reclaimed fabric bags.

Upon returning to the eastcoast in 2006, Luca reopened Mountain Water Canvas focusing on custom boat covers located on Newfound Lake in the Lakes Regions of Central New Hampshire. After the birth of son Max in 2009, Luca and husband Justin plotted their return to sunny California in 2012. After taking a few years off to focus on family and explore her interest in Interior Design, Mountain Water Canvas was reopened in the spring of 2018 in its current form allowing Luca to explore her various artist interests.

Currently Luca is lucky enough to find a balance between work that she loves and outdoor endeavors including part-time Ski Patrolling, paddle boarding, trail running, and mountain biking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. She can often be found adventuring up and down the west coast in search of used sailcloth.
